GACO Event - Launch & Presentation to the Press of the GACO Gibraltar Corporate Governance Code - 20th March 2025

Good corporate governance is the responsibility of every board of directors and can be instrumental in helping businesses with a clear strategic direction and long-term success. GACO has introduced this voluntary code to assist directors and businesses to pick their way through laws and regulation and ensure the adherence to sound corporate governance within their companies.
Many cases of corporate fraud, accounting scandals and organisational failures leading to lawsuits, resignations or even insolvency have made corporate governance an important and often discussed topic. These have often been as a result of the failure of system of checks and balances designed to prevent activities that are detrimental to the long-term welfare of the company and of its shareholders and stakeholders. Therefore, many jurisdictions have introduced formal regulations on corporate governance as well as guidelines on what would constitute good standards of corporate governance.
Good corporate governance is important because it brings about many advantages to an organisation. Among other benefits, good corporate governance protects and promotes the best interest of an organisation, leads to successful operational and financial performance and protects against the risk of organisational failure or collapse. Corporate governance is thus ‘a game-changer’.
GACO is therefore happy to announce that it has created the Gibraltar Corporate Governance Code. It is a completely voluntary code that local companies, depending on their size and complexity can decide to fully adopt or can choose to only adopt in parts as suits them or simply follow some of its practical recommendations.
We are inviting you to attend the launch of the Code. Every registered attendee will be able to obtain on situ a hard copy of the Code. Further copies will be available on future selected GACO events, and we will be happy to share a soft copy of the code with our members.
