FREE Webinar: ESG-SFDR: Will the UK/Gibraltar align with the EU?

12 April 2021

The European Union’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) came in on 10th March 2021 and introduced requirements on EU asset managers and advisers to make ESG related disclosures, which provide investors with the information needed to make informed choices based on ESG factors. Further ESG related EU Regulation is in the pipeline to be phased in from January 2022 onwards.

Although SFDR has been implemented after the “exit date” of 31st December 2020, therefore has not been adopted into UK law and is not expected to be imported into Gibraltar law, there are a number of ways in which SFDR and future EU regulations could apply to non-EU firms.

The UK government has stated its intention to introduce its own regime for climate related financial disclosures and Gibraltar may well follow a similar route. While the precise nature and scope of ESG regulation in the UK continues to develop, ESG remains a critical consideration for all aspects of UK and/or Gibraltar businesses’ operations. The nature of the disclosure obligations stemming from regulation, coupled with the public scrutiny around this issue, means that business leaders will have to be watchful of ESG as they develop plans for 2021 and beyond.

In this webinar, we explore the potential challenges that UK and Gibraltar businesses will face in 2021 and beyond as a result of the changing regulatory landscape post-Brexit, as well as providing an overview of ESG, SFDR, future regulatory developments and other ESG initiatives, such as the UN’s Principles for Responsible Investment.

In order to be able to navigate through this complexity, GACO is happy to have been able to partner up with Kroll’s new office in Gibraltar led by Andrew Stoneman and Jane Stoakes and Amelie Snape of Kroll’s London Compliance Consultancy team. Kroll can provide advice and assist firms on SFDR, future regulatory developments and ESG matters, taking a practical approach and tailoring the service to clients’ needs.

The speakers of the event will be Jane Stoakes, Amelie Snape and Andrew Probert:
